Intermediate and Senior Interior Designer

Full Time, Permanent

Requirements include:

  • A technical Diploma or relevant University Degree
  • Related experience: 3-5 years minimum for Intermediate Designers, and 5-8 years minimum for Senior Designers
  • Design and space planning skills in AutoCAD
  • A strong understanding of residential market materials, products and finishing
  • The ability to handle a broad workload, multitask and prioritize
  • A strong work ethic with an attention to detail
  • Exceptional English written and oral communication skills

Considered an asset:

  • Local market experience
  • Vectorworks experience
  • InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop skills
  • Specific experience with residential construction in BC
  • Experience and familiarity with permit drawing interpretation

Required Skillset:

  • Developing an overall design rationale for a custom home
  • Developing this vision with a team throughout the permitting, selections and construction process, and contributing to our Design Build critical thinking.
  • Developing material and product selections, creatively exploring the market for solutions to best fit the given project.
  • Communicating with our vendors; sub-trades and suppliers, to evaluate the practicality and cost of all design work, at all stages of design.
  • Assisting with budgeting, evaluate project cost estimations in reference to all finishes and fixtures.
  • Producing design deliverables and instruction when presenting work to clients (using what is appropriate, including graphic/digital sample boards, 2D and 3D hand sketches, physical sample collection & display, floor plans and elevations).
  • Producing and administrating supportive materials, such as door/window schedules, letter correspondence, site directions, scopes of work, change orders, or similar.
  • Reviewing millwork and other fabrication shop drawings for compliance with the design intent.
  • Participating in monitoring design implementation on site, pro-actively work to avoid delays by predicting and producing design information in a timely fashion that will be necessary for the construction activity on site.
  • Providing feedback to our internal team regarding design performance and progress of work completed. Report any design discrepancies as they arise.
  • Responding to requests for information through the build.

Lead Hand

Full Time, Permanent

Requirements include:

  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license and available vehicle
  • 10 years of experience in residential construction
  • 3 years of experience as a lead hand
  • Necessary PPE, site safety equipment and basic work tool belt

Novell Design Build’s LEAD HANDS work directly under our Director for Construction, Angelito Camaclang. The ideal candidate will work closely with Angelito to understand the full scope of work necessary for a major construction project. They will be able to work independently and with our team to deliver the build to a high standard of quality and accuracy.

The ideal candidate will have any combination of the following skills/experience:

  • Leading a team of vendors and subcontractors onsite to install, renovate, build new and/or prefabricate all aspects of a custom home;
  • Identifying necessary tasks in anticipation of the next steps of the construction;
  • Implementing and enforcing safety precautions onsite;
  • Reporting onsite work issues and problem-solving when necessary;
  • Accepting materials and supplies onsite;
  • Reading and interpreting building drawings. This includes Determining specifications and calculating requirements, adjusting work accordingly and executing work with precision;
  • Overseeing onsite paperwork, keeping a daily log;
  • Deep knowledge of the BC Building Code is an asset.

The ideal candidate will also have an extensive history in the construction industry,

With cross-trade knowledge of building technology, sequencing and implementation. We are looking for a highly experienced generalist. When necessary/as able, the ideal candidate will work with our team to physically complete some aspects of our custom construction. With proved experience and skills, our team accomplishes:

  • Wood framing residential homes, particularly custom major renovations and custom new builds.
  • Installing structural beams, building foundations, laying subflooring, erecting walls and roof systems.
  • Fitting and installing windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware.
  • Preparing site for skilled subcontractors such as electricians, plumbers, roofers.
  • Install, service, and repair prefabricated products.

Skilled Labourer

Full Time or Part Time, Permanent

The successful candidate will be a skilled labourer with a proactive attitude, strong work ethic, common sense, along with the necessary general skill set for this role.  Our ideal candidate would be looking for a place to grow their knowledge base and exposure within the residential design-build industry.

Responsibilities include a wide variety of tasks onsite, including but not limited to: demolition by hand & tool, forming, framing, insulation, drywall, waterproofing, interior and exterior finishing, painting, clean up and deficiencies. 

Experience with framing or carpentry is an asset.

All work to be done under the direction of a Site Supervisor.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years related experience minimum – open to all levels of experience into senior levels
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license and vehicle
  • Construction labour abilities – whether from a specific trade perspective or a generalist perspective
  • Basic safety wear and weather-appropriate gear including steel toe boots, hard hat, gloves, rain suit; basic hand tools
  • A strong understanding of residential construction
  • A strong work ethic with attention to detail
  • Ability to take direction with English oral communication skills

Ideal Applicant will also have:

  • Specific experience with residential construction in BC / City of Vancouver
  • Experience with framing, carpentry and finishing

General Labourer

Part Time, Temporary, On-Call

The successful candidate will be a general labourer with a strong work ethic, common sense, and the necessary general skill set for this role. 

All work to be done under the direction of a Site Supervisor.

Requirements:

  • 1-year related experience minimum
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license and vehicle
  • Construction labour abilities from a generalist perspective
  • Basic safety wear and weather-appropriate gear including steel toe boots, hard hat, gloves, rain suit; basic hand tools
  • A strong work ethic with attention to detail
  • Ability to take direction with English oral communication skills

Remuneration

Competitive based on experience and, for full-time staff, a shared benefits package after the probationary period.
